The Our Shirt Campaign began as an idea to draw attention to the student section during football games. Originally, the campaign included two shirts of the same design in green and gold. The design team, which was comprised of a number of professionals from the athletics department, in addition to a few student leaders, revised the design several times before ultimately deciding to produce just one shirt to be worn at all games, and the Our Shirt Campaign was born.
The initial cost of production for the first 10,000 shirts was absorbed by Student Government and Athletics. The budget was approved for the Our Shirt Campaign on April 6th, 2007, and production by Helinger Advertising in St. Pete began.
During the first year of production, more than 13,000 shirts were sold to students and members of the USF Community. The explosion of popularity for Our Shirt was quickly evident, as the shirt became the staple uniform for the true USF fan. These inaugural shirts - complete with pictures of football coach and team founder, Jim Leavitt - we easily identifiable in any crowd. No matter where you went, Our Shirt couldn't be far away. And so began this new USF tradition.
